Celebration On Saturday
Canandaigua, NY - May 21, 2007 - Tom Skibinski,
Canandaigua Speedway PR Director
Canandaigua Speedway kicks Memorial Day Weekend
on May 26 with a gigantic FIREWORKS display as
track management honors American soldiers on
Saturday.
New York Army/National Guard Night at the
Ontario County Fairgrounds oval features a full
DIRTcar Racing program of Big-Block Modifieds,
Sportsman Modifieds, Street Stocks and PureStox.
Spectator gates will swing open at 5 p.m. on
Saturday with the first qualifying heat rolling
off the line promptly at 7 o'clock. Pit gates
are slated to unlock at 4 p.m. for all
competitors.
Consistency has carried Chuck Bower to the top
of the DIRTcar Modified point standings yet
Steve Paine became the first repeat winner after
scoring his second straight victory to close the
gap to just four markers after four races. While
Bower is in search of his first career Big-Block
track title, Paine is looking to set the record
straight by capturing an unprecedented eighth
consecutive track points championship.
Front runner Todd Henderson is also on course to
claim another divisional title in the DIRTcar
Sportsman Modified ranks, with an opening night
victory setting the stage early. Scott Schrader,
Dan Wiesner and Paul Guererri also reached
victory lane while Henderson has added a pair of
runner-up tallies to maintain his stronghold at
the popular Routes 5&20 oval.
The full-fender activity has been just as heavy
with no repeat winners in eight main events to
date. Defending DIRTcar Street Stock track
champion Blane Smith (1 win) leads multi-time
Canandaigua points king Mike Welch by four
points while solid top-three runner Les Excell
(1 win) heads the early season points chart in
entry level PureStox competition.
5-PAK ticket packages continue to be available
for all regular events at Canandaigua as well as
sister track Cayuga County Fair Speedway.
Providing a great deal for fans, each 5-PAK of
tickets can be purchased for $48.00 which
results in the receipt of (1) free ticket. The
regular show admission is just $12 for adults
(15-64 yrs.), $10 for Seniors (65 yrs. & older)
and $5 for youths (10-14 yrs.) while children 9
yrs. & under are free.
