Matt Sheppard Remains Atop the Throne at Canandaigua Speedway

Weedsport, NY – The #9s Xtreme Lubricants sponsored ride of Matt Sheppard remains untouchable once more, as Sheppard lands in victory lane for the fourth time this season at Canandaigua Speedway.

Big Block Modifieds

Pole sitter Paul Guererri and the “Big Show” Dave Rauscher would line up one and two at the fall of the green flag Saturday night, but by the completion of lap one it seemed as the “Big Show” was looking to take the spotlight away from Guererri as he nabbed the top spot.

With just five laps in the books, a caution flag brought out by Danny Johnson would send Rauscher, Charlie Donk, Justin Haers, and current point leader Matt Sheppard to the line two by two at the restart. When action resumed, Sheppard quickly stole the number two spot from the #99 of Donk exiting turn 2 and within two circuits, the 9s would be knocking on Rauscher’s door…

Sheppard didn’t seem to waste anytime canceling the “Big Show’s” number one run a top the leader board, as he slices his way past Rauscher with an inside move by lap 9. Just two laps later, it look as if Sheppard wouldn’t sail away with a victory quite yet as Gary Tomkins aboard the Rochester Americans #84 had a little bit more racing to do as he began to reel in Sheppard inch by inch.

The top two would enter into traffic by lap 13 and from there the duo weaved in and out, meticulously looking to gain ground with every car’s passing.  Reminiscent to last week it became evident that Sheppard had just a little more torque left in the engine as he held onto the lead, claiming the checkered flag in the 35-lap feature. Top Five: Matt Sheppard, Gary Tomkins, Justin Haers, Jeff Brownell Jr, and Dave Rauscher

Sportsman Modified

The Sportsman Modified division delivers yet another heart-pumping feature Saturday night as Justin Henderson found all the right moves to hold off Ryan Susice and Dan Wiesner for the win.

An early caution during the beginning circuits of the 25-lap feature sent fans to their feet as a harrowing collision involving multiple cars, sent the 99$ of Rizzardo airborne over the inside retaining wall of turn 1 and Phil LaVare out of commission.

The yellow flags would continue to fly for the next five laps as Mark Chiddy, Rob Bussey and Allan Willis all took a hand in slowing down the action; but the story of the night quickly became the #66 of Dan Wiesner, who found himself sitting one spot away from a Top Five position after starting the feature in dead last.

Wiesner had no intentions of slowing down when action resumed but one question remained, would Wiesner have enough time to track down current leader and last week’s feature winner Ryan Susice.

A choice move by Susice on lap 14 to stay with the inside groove didn’t bode too well for last week’s winner as Henderson screams by the #38k around the top side giving him just enough room to grab the top spot. From there, Henderson couldn’t be touched as he claimed the checkered flag in victory lane just moments later. Top Five: Justin Henderson, Ryan Susice, Dan Wiesner, Steve Gray, and Greg Cool

Street Stocks

Bubba Burnell must have liked the spot in victory lane during last week’s Street Stock feature, as the 57b made his way back to the winner’s circle for the second week in a row after passing Chris Fisher on lap four of the twenty lap feature. Top Five: Bubba Burnell, Wayne Ellison, Mike Welch, Andy Fisk, and Chris Fisher

Pure Stox

It was a green to checkered flag win for Corey Hunt in the Pure Stox division after slick track conditions gave Hunt and the remaining 5 contender’s fits by feature’s end.  Top Five: Corey Hunt, Roger Bush, Marc Minutolo, Eric Chapman, and Alex Morris.
