Canandaigua Speedway Sees Double Vision! Weedsport, NY – A week before the Big Block Modifieds take to the track for the Super DIRTcar Series race next Saturday, Canandaigua Speedway kicks racing action up a notch with double points up for grabs in all divisions. Big Block Modifieds 7…8…9! 7 seconds separated spots one and two as Matt Sheppard cruised into victory lane once more in front of the #3 of Justin Haers. 8 spots… Sheppard takes advantage of a caution flag thrown on lap 3 to advance eight spots in one lap to steal the lead away from the #21 of Derrick Podsiadlo. 9s ... After disposing of Podsiadlo in the #21 on lap 3 of the 35 lap feature, Sheppard landed in victory lane for the sixth time this season in another dominating performance this season at Canandaigua Speedway.
Despite Sheppard’s consecutive wins, it was an impressive night for Justin Haers and teammate Jeff Brownell Jr as the two rounded out the top three. Haers started the night in eighth position in front of Brownell, but the pair quickly worked up the ranks battling heavy hitters Steve Paine and Podsiadlo for double point vindication. Top Five: Matt Sheppard, Justin Haers, Jeff Brownell Jr, Steve Paine, and Charlie Donk. Don’t forget! Next Saturday Canandaigua Speedway host the Super DIRTcar Series on August 8th as Anne Marie Rhodes, Miss Sprint Cup, gives the Big Block Modifieds the green flag to go racing!! Sportsman Modifieds Steve Gray captured yet another victory at Canandaigua Speedway during Saturday night’s Sportsman feature; but, the win itself wouldn’t come without a fight as Canadian hot shot AJ Lewis orchestrated a two lap shootout in the waning moments, sending fans to their feet in a heart stopping checkered flag finish. Before five laps could be entered into the 25 lap feature, an 8 car pile up on the front stretch sent the #67g of Eric Gugiere into a tail spin as Rob Bussey, Daryl Hilkert, Anthony Rizzardo, and Gary Hoteling found themselves in the midst of Canandaigua’s fury. As action resumed, Mark Chiddy would reassume the lead as Gray, Kane Bristol, Nick Guererri, and Phil LaVare rounded out the Top Five. However, Chiddy’s stint a top the leader board wouldn’t last for long as the effervescent Gray muscled by the #54 of Chiddy with a move to the inside to take the lead. Taking up shop behind the Gevo’s Rears and Gears sponsored ride of Guererri, currently in third, was the #24a of Lewis who worked his way from a Top Ten spot to advance five spots with fifteen laps to go. And as the circuits continued to fall, action would only intensify as the #38k of Ryan Susice entered the mix, going toe to toe with Guererri and Lewis for Top three positioning. Guererri would later surrender his second place spot after greeting the inside wall coming out of turn 4, leaving Lewis and Susice to challenge Gray for a parking spot in victory lane. A caution thrown with just two laps to go sent current point’s leader Susice to the pits with a right rear flat and Lewis nose to tail with the leader as the boys headed into turn four with a full head of steam. It appeared going into turns three and four with just one lap to go that Lewis had Gray’s number but the Fox Automotive ride of Gray had a little more left in the tank #29g silenced the attempts of Lewis, keeping the Canadian wonder at bay for second best. Top Five: Steve Gray, AJ Lewis, Anthony Rizzardo, Dan Wiesner, and Mark Chiddy Street Stocks Bubba Burnell showcased all the right moves during Saturday night’s Street Stock double feature as the #57b cruised into victory lane twice for a clean sweep in the two 20 lap features. During the night’s two Street Stock features witnessed multiple challenges from the heavy hitters of Mike Welch, Andy Fisk, and Nate Peckham try their hand at dethroning Burnell from the lead spot, but by each feature’s conclusion Burnell’s ride yet again reigned supreme on a night where double points were in effect.
