Big Block Modifieds During the final laps of racing during the Big Block Modified feature this Saturday, its was team mate vs team mate as Xtreme Lubricants top two drivers Jeff Brownell Jr and Matt Sheppard battle for supremacy! Within the opening circuits of the Modified feature, Canandaigua’s heavy hitters were hungry for some full throttle racing as Eldon Payne Jr, Brownell Jr, and Gary Tomkins all had their hand atop the throne in the action pack event. Payne aboard the #28p led the first leg of the tour but was dethroned by the #84 of Tomkins as the Rochester Americans sponsored modified rocketed pass Brownell and Payne with one fell swoop around the track.
As circuits continued to fall, Brownell hammered around the legendary half mile track with a vengeance, giving Tomkins a run for his money with each lap’s completion. With five laps to go, Brownell was knocking on Tomkins back door as the duo weaved in and out of traffic. Congestion in turns one and two got the better of Tomkins, giving Brownell an opening to take the lead but it wouldn’t be his last battle of the night as team mate Matt Sheppard was milliseconds behind! This time Sheppard wasn’t going to get his man as the #29 of Brownell said adieu to “Super Man” for a seat in Victory Lane! Top Five: Jeff Brownell Jr, Matt Sheppard, Justin Haers, Gary Tomkins, and Charlie Donk. Sportsman Modifieds In a caution ridden night for the Sportsman Modified feature this Saturday night at Canandaigua Speedway, Dan Wiesner and Ryan Susice gave fans a heart-stopping checkered flag finish bringing fans to their feet as the duo battled for the number spot! The #66 of Wiesner reigned supreme from start to finish as he surrendered Lincoln of his top spot by lap 8, jumping out to a comfortable leads as Susice aboard the #38k works his way to fourth. Caution flags after caution flags continued to send the boys back to the line but with every restart, Wiesner rocketed into a comfortable lead as Susice began working on the #2L of Lincoln. With less than five laps remaining in the feature, attention turned to spots one and two as Susice did everything in his power to dethrone Wiesner as the two went wheel to wheel exchanging the positions as they ricocheted around the half miler. This time however, hot shot Susice would take heed from the veteran driver, as Wiesner cruised into Victory Lane for the first time this season! Top Five: Dan Wiesner, Ryan Susice, Eric Giguere, Gary Hoteling, and Steve Gray. Street Stock Nate Peckham traded in his third place starting position for something a little more golden, as the #90 of Peckham cruises past Mike Rasbeck and Leroy Lewis to take first by lap 6 of the 20-lap Street Stock feature. From lap 6 and on, fans witnessed a dominating performance by Peckham, leaving behind the remaining nine cars to do battle as he screamed around the track to take home a win here at Canandaigua Speedway. The #00 of Mike Welch finished the night second best despite starting the night in dead last. Pure Stox Derrick Excel, grandson of Bobby Lutz would lead the racing action in the Pure Stox division as Alex Morris and Corey Hunt vie to take down the #D7 of Excel. With four laps in the books, Marc Minutolo found his way around current point’s leader Corey Hunt for the third place spot as the #D7 of Excel ricochets around the legendary half mile track with ease. Halfway thru the race, Excel continued to remain comfortable atop the pack but Morris aboard the orange #36 was done racing as he begins to reel in the leader. In a heart stopping finish, Morris and Excel go wheel to wheel on back straightaway with one to go with Morris beating out Excel for the lead to take the checkered flag!
