Matt Sheppard’s Got His Groove Back! Weedsport, NY – As Canandaigua Speedway enters into its final months, fans witness wheel to wheel, full-throttle racing action this Saturday night as Matt Sheppard, Eric Gugiere, Mike Rasbeck, Mike Minutolo, and Jim Lafler land in victory lane! Big Block Modified Matt Sheppard used his momentum from his Can-Am Speedway Series race Friday night this Saturday at Canandaigua Speedway, rocketing his way from the middle of the pack to first in a matter of eight laps! With every circuit around the track Sheppard picked his through the field lapping the likes of Rob Bellinger, Paul Habeck, and Shannon Whaley as the feature entered into double digits.
By lap 12, Gary Tomkins began making moves up the track passing Derrick Podsiadlo for fourth and then Brian Swartout for third on lap 18. With five laps to go, Tomkins clears Chad Homan for second but the #9s of Sheppard was too far gone to track down. Moments later, Sheppard would cross the finish lane with only three other drivers, Tomkins, Homan and Paine on the lead lap. Top Five – Matt Sheppard, Gary Tomkins, Chad Homan, Steve Paine, and Charlie Donk Sportsman Modifieds Loren Lincoln would gain and lose his lead position within the first ten laps of the Sportsman Modified feature on Saturday night after spinning out in turns one and two, taking Nick Guerierri currently running in third with him. Greg Birosh was able to escape the wreckage in turn two to assume the lead position when racing action resumed. Marcus Dinkins relinquishes Birosh of his leadership duties on lap seven thanks to an outside move but with Eric Giguere aboard his Safety Solutions #67g quickly working through the field, the young gun had some rough waters ahead of him. A caution flag three laps later would set up a shootout between Dinkins and Giguere on the restart and this time Dinkins would take a lesson from the veteran driver as the #67g ducked to the inside to take the lead away. From there, it was Giguere’s show, ricocheting around the half miler building his lead with every lap’s completion. Steve Gray found his way around Birosh for third and the #29g would remain there until the checkered flag waved on the 25-lap feature as Gugiere picked up his second win at Canandaigua Speedway this season. Top Five: Eric Gugiere, Marcus Dinkins, Steve Gray, Anthony Rizzardo, and Dan Wiesner Street Stock Mike Rasbeck captured his first victory this season at Canandaigua Speedway in the Street Stock division after fending off the likes of Leroy Lewis and Andy Fisk to take the checkered flag. By the completion of lap one, Rasbeck took advantage of his outside front row spot to get around the #07 of Lewis but the #00r would soon find himself entrenched in a head to head battle with Andy Fisk. Wheel to wheel action lap after lap kept fans locked on the battle for first as the duo traded the top two positions. With a handful of laps left in the books, Rasbeck dismissed the advances of Fisk, retaining his lead up until the checkered flag waved!! Team mate Mike Welch worked his way from an eighth place start to finish the night in third. Top Five: Mike Rasbeck, Andy Fisk, Mike Welch, Bubba Burnell, Nate Peckham Pure Stox The Pure Stox feature came out to a Lemans style start, paying tribute to fellow driver, Floyd Bush who suffered a stroke earlier this week. As Floyd watched from the grandstands on Saturday night, 11 cars took to green flag action as brother Roger Bush shot out to the initial lead over George LaVare Jr and Mike Minutolo. Despite Bush’s initial lead, there was no stopping Minutolo Saturday night as the #52b proved to be an absolute terror on the half mile track taking the lead and never letting go for the remainder of the 15 lap feature. A caution would fly with five laps to go, giving Bush and now Alex Morris, currently sitting in third, one last chance to dethrone the leader but all attempts at the restart were silence by Minutolo as he took the checkered flag! Top Five – Mike Minutolo, Alex Morris, Roger Bush, Ross Lurcock, Marc Minutolo New York Modified Midgets From start to finish, Jammin Jimmy Lafler had complete control of the field as he took his pole position to the max, cruising to victory lane in an easy victory over the 7 New York Modified Midget field on Saturday night at Canandaigua Speedway. Tyler Walker in the #81 modified midget tried to catch up to Ken Wills aboard the #21, but Walker was kept at arms length for the 12 lap feature.
