CANANDAIGUA SPEEDWAY DEFEATS WEATHERMAN AGAIN. MIDSEASON CHAMPIONSHIPS FOR ALL DIVISIONS THIS SATURDAY

CANANDAIGUA, NY_ After early afternoon rains, Canandaigua Speedway pressed on and defeated Mother Nature once again as the Ontario County Fairgrounds half mile clay oval ended the month of June with a bang. Late race lead changes made things very interesting in the DIRTcar Modified, DIRTcar Sportsman and Factory Stock/Pure Stock divisions. The $20 car load was a big hit along with the on track “meet and greet” autograph session at intermission. Several race fans were prepared for the special night as many brought their cameras to take pictures of their favorite drivers. DC Rauscher employees enjoyed themselves up in the VIP booth as owner Dave Rauscher was competing on the race track in the headlining DIRTcar big block Modified division.

In the 35 lap DIRTcar big block Modified feature, Steve Paine inherited the lead on lap 32 after then leader Matt Sheppard broke a rear axle and went on to the victory. Sheppard was in control of the race until his unfortunate incident. Second was Rob Bellinger followed by Brian Swarthout followed by Chad Homan and Dave Rauscher.

Justin Henderson took the lead from Justin Wright on lap 23 in a heated battle between the two racing stars and went on to win the 25 lap DIRTcar Sportsman feature. Wright had the lead from the start of the event until Henderson, who picked up his second win of the 2010 season at Canandaigua, went by for the lead. Steve Gray also slipped by Wright with a lap to go to take over the runner-up position. Wright finished in third place. Fourth was Kane Bristol followed by Karl Comfort in fifth.

In the 20 lap DIRTcar Stock Car feature, Andy Fisk took the victory. Fisk took the lead on lap four and was never headed. It was Fisk’s third win of the season at Canandaigua. Second was Mike Welch followed Chris Fisher, Mike Rasbeck and Pat Hobbs. In one of the better finishes of the 2010 racing season in the 15 lap Factory Stocks/Pure Stock feature, Marc Minutolo beat out Alex Morris at the finish line.  Andrew Smith was third. Fourth was Roger Bush followed by Don Drave in fifth.

LAND OF LEGENDS NOTES: The weekly autograph session that has been so successful during the 2010 season will start up again this Saturday with DIRTcar racing stars Eric Giguere and Dan Wiesner signing autographs from 5:30 to 6:00 next to the DIRTcar apparel trailer…Controversy on and off the track may have been sparked by a full moon that grazed the Canandaigua Speedway skies. Track officials, however, did a great job in getting a superb racing surface together and still beating the 11pm curfew…Sportsman driver Dan Wiesner went end over end in the late stages of the Sportsman feature. He emerged from the car uninjured.

This Saturday, it’s Fingerlakes Radio Night with double points in all four divisions. Race time is 7pm. Pit gates will open at 4pm. Grandstands at 5pm.
