DAN WIESNER WINS FIRST OF 2010 SEASON AT CANANDAIGUA SPEEDWAY; BRP 360 LATE MODEL CHALLENGE ON HAND FOR THIS WEEK CANANDAIGUA, NY- The July 4th Holiday weekend kicked off with a bang at Canandaigua Speedway as the Fingerlakes Radio Group presented the Midseason Championship. Fans were treated to the racing action of the DIRTcar Modifieds, Sportsman, Stock Cars, Pure Stocks, and the Midstate Vintage Club cars. After trackside action concluded, fans looked to the sky to watch a spectacular fireworks show.
Fans that arrived to the track early were given the chance to meet two of their favorite drivers as Sportsman competitors Dan Wiesner and Eric Giguere were on hand to sign autographs. Next weeks autograph session at the DIRTcar Merchandise Trailer will be from 5:30-6:00. The popular event has become a staple and helps race fans prepare for the night’s activities. Steve Paine won for the fourth time in 2010 in the DIRTcar big block Modifieds at Canandaigua Speedway, winning the 50 lap feature. Justin Haers was certainly the biggest mover of the night as he came from dead last when he was involved in a crash on lap one. Haers moved through the pack quickly and crossed the finish line in second place. Rob Bellinger was third and picked up the $500 Dig Safely Bonus Bucks gift certificate. Fourth was Charlie Donk while fifth place was Ron Cartright Jr. Dan Wiesner led all 25 laps in his first 2010 Canandaigua Speedway DIRTcar Sportsman feature win. Steve Gray was second followed by Randy McCulloch in third. Rounding out the top five was Karl Comfort and Daryl Hilkert. The 20 lap DIRTcar Stock Car feature was a thriller as Mike Welch took home his second win of the season at the half-mile Land of Legends oval. Welch took the lead on lap 15 and held off the advances of Chris Fisher, who came up beside Welch several times in the final laps. Frank Burnell would pass Fisher on the final lap to finish second. Fourth was Nate Peckham and fifth was Mike Rasbeck. Alex Morris went to Canandaigua Speedway victory lane for the fourth time in 2010, winning the 15 lap Factory Stock/Pure Stock feature. Andrew Smith was second followed by Roger Bush in third. Fourth was Don Drave and fifth was Dale Bush. The Midstate Vintage Club was on hand and put on a great show. Dave Charczuk was the winner of the Modified division. Paul Applebee took the Sportsman class and Don Larmen won the Limited Sportsman class. LAND OF LEGENDS NOTES: A great crowd was on hand for the July 4th extravaganza. Included in that was several hard working members of our armed forces…Points leaders following Saturday’s program are Modifieds-Steve Paine, Sportsman-Steve Gray, Stock Cars-Frank Burnell and Factory Stocks/Pure Stocks-Alex Morris…Hometown Heroes will return to the Saturday, July 10th program with Farmington, Lima, Avon and Pittsford residents getting FREE grandstand admission with proper identification. Next Saturday BASS Pro Shops presents the 35-lap Modified, Sportsman, BRP Late Model Black Rock/Canandaigua Challenge Series and Stock cars. Along with the ever popular One-on-One spectator race. Adult admission is $12. Senior Citizens $10. Active Military and Students 10-18 are $5. Children nine and under are FREE.
