Canandaigua Speedway Weekly Divisions

DIRTcar Big Block Modifieds

The North East is the longtime home of the Big-Block Modified division, which holds a place alongside the Super Late Models as a DIRTcar Racing headliner.  Descendants of the coupes that became popular after World War II, the highly evolved, 750 plus horsepower DIRTcar Big-Block Modified class remains a weekly staple at the Cayuga County Fair Speedway.  These custom fabricated, tubular framed, open-wheel machines race on specially prepared Hoosier Racing tires.  Unlike many divisions racing today, the DIRTcar Modified features a “center steer” cockpit.  Drivers are seated directly above the driveline of the racecar, which makes it slightly more difficult to enter the machine than the conventional stock car.

DIRTcar Sportsman Modifieds

A stepping-stone to the DIRTcar 358-Modified and DIRTcar Big-Block Modified classes, the North East’s DIRTcar Sportsman Modified division provides aspiring drivers an opportunity to learn the nuances of Modified racing on a smaller budget.  Crate engines are among the elements that help keep costs down for Sportsman racers, who can compete for local and regional DIRTcar Racing titles.  The machines themselves are built in extremely close proximity to that of their bigger Big-Block Modified brothers.  They too are custom fabricated, tubular framed, open-wheel machines that run on slightly smaller Hoosier Racing tires.  In fact, many drivers moving from the DIRTcar Sportsman division to the Big-Block Modified division will simply swap their crate engine for a Big-Block engine and hit the racetrack.

UMP DIRTcar Street Stocks

The UMP DIRTcar Street Stock division is built with the beginner in mind.  This division utilizes a stock production frame, with any American or Canadian car eligible from 1968 to present.  Drivers and teams have the option of using a stock cast iron engine with all parts remaining in the stock OEM position, or using the factory sealed GM crate engine.  These “Stock Cars” sport tires with street tread only with a maximum 8” tread width.  Budget racers are able to battle it out for national recognition in the UMP DIRTcar Racing Street Stock division.

PureStox

The BattleKarz division is truly an amateur class, giving drivers new to the sport an opportunity to race on level ground and learn the ropes of auto racing.  Any 4 cylinder, normally aspirated car with a maximum wheel base of 103” is allowed to compete.  All frame and suspension pieces in these cars must remain completely stock, with bracing permitted in the driver’s compartment in the interest of safety.  Keeping with stock applications, only all season passenger tires are permitted.
