Champions Crowned Saturday Night

Track Champions Decided this Saturday on Paine Motorsports Night of Champions at Canandaigua Speedway

Weedsport, NY – August 27, 2008 – By Dan Kapuscinski, Canandaigua Speedway PR and Promotions Coordinator

This Saturday, August 30th it’s Paine Motorsports Night of Champions presented by Huff Equipment at the Land of Legends.  Be sure to also bring the youngsters as they will have the chance to ride around the Speedway during Kid’s Fun Laps in a Street Stock or PureStox racecar.

The DIRTcar Big-Block Modifieds, Sportsman Modifieds, Street Stocks, and PureStox will take the green at 7pm.

The Pit area will open at 3:30pm Saturday, with the grandstand gates swinging open at 5pm.  Practice will begin at 5:45pm in order to allow time for the Kid’s Fun Laps which will be taking place around 6:30pm.

Tickets for all regular season events will be made available at the gate.  Adult general admission is set at $12, $10 for Seniors (Age 65+), $5 for children (Ages 10-14), and those under the age of 9 are FREE.

Pit admission for DIRTcar Northeast members will be $20, while non-members will be admitted for $25.

Last Saturday night two of Canandaigua Speedway’s most decorated champions put on a display of skill and courage, as they raced to the line in daring fashion.  Gary Tomkins managed to charge around Steve Paine on the extreme outside edge of the Speedway in the final turn to claim the 35-lap Big-Block Modified victory, his fourth of the season.

With the win Tomkins now moves to within one-point of Matt Sheppard for second in the overall Big-Block standings going into the final night of the season.  However, both are trailing all-time Canandaigua Speedway points king Steve Paine by 24-points in the rundown.

Just like Tomkins, “The Canadian Blizzard” Anthony Rizzardo made a last lap pass in the DIRTcar Sportsman Modifieds to pick up his first career win at Canandaigua Speedway.  Rizzardo moved low on Daryl Hilkert out of the second turn on the final circuit to pick up the popular win.

Rizzardo’s win moves him to 3rd in the standings, just 13-points behind Dan Wiesner for the runner-up position.  Wiesner continues to trail the no. 20x of Kevin Ridley for the championship lead by 51-points, a nearly insurmountable gap with just one race remaining.

Chris Fisher and Marc Minutolo took victories in the DIRTcar Street Stock and PureStox divisions.  Mike Welch has retaken the point lead in the Street Stocks over Andy Fisk, and leads by a very slim 5-points.  Welch and Fisk are the only two drivers mathematically eligible for the title.

Bryan Faulkner still leads the way in the PureStox division by 26-markers over Marc Minutolo.
